Important Update: Nov. 15 Rally Postponed
Because of indications that the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) may not move forward, we are temporarily postponing the action until its status becomes clear.
This is great news! It is because of your efforts that this dangerous set of pro-corporate policies has not passed. But we still must keep the pressure on until we know for sure the future of the TPP.
The rally will be back on if there is any indication the TPP will be raised for a vote. Look out for an e-mail update.
In the meantime, please call Minnesota U.S. Amy Senator Klobuchar's office and ask her to make a public statement that she is against a lame duck TPP vote — corporate interests are still pushing for the deal to pass, and it is important for our leaders to publicly stand with the people.
Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN): 202-224-3244
Suggested message: Hi, my name is ___ and I live in ____. I am calling because I am against the Trans-Pacific Partnership and am glad to hear that it may not be raised for a vote. (Optional: Your reasons for being opposed to TPP.) I am calling to ask the Senator to take this opportunity to make a public statement against TPP, to ensure this set of pro-corporate policies and future deals like it will be stopped. We need to hear from the Senator that she stands with the people on this important issue.
Thank you for taking action - look for an update soon.
Stand alongside Minnesota farmers and workers and say NO to pro-corporate trade deals.
When: Tuesday, Nov. 15, 4 p.m.-5 p.m.
Where: 1200 S. Washington Ave., Minneapolis, Minn.
The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is a pro-corporate trade deal being negotiated between the U.S. and 11 other nations in the Pacific region. But the deal goes far beyond trade, giving corporations the power to sue governments over any law they see as interfering with their “expected future profits." If passed, the TPP would violate people's right to have a say in their communities, undermine food safety and public health, and harm small farmers here and around the world.
The deal could be raised for a vote anytime in the next few weeks. But Minnesota U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar has still failed to tell her constituents where she stands on the deal.
Join the Land Stewardship Project, the Communication Workers of America (CWA) and allies on Nov. 15 for a rally to demand that Sen. Klobuchar stand with constituents, not corporate interests, and come out publicly against the TPP. Hear from speakers from the sustainable agriculture and labor movements, and add your voice to the call for trade that supports people, not corporations.
