Flooded Out Farmers Eligible to Apply for
Assistance from Sow the Seeds Fund

CONTACT: George Boody, LSP, 651-653-0618

9/25/07
Organic and sustainable farmers devastated by the recent flooding in southeast Minnesota, southwest Wisconsin and northeast Iowa are encouraged to apply for assistance from the Sow the Seeds Flood Relief Fund. To download a pdf copy of the application form, click here.

The Sow the Seeds Fund is a project of the Minneapolis-based Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP), working in partnership with natural food co-ops and other nonprofit organization such as the Land Stewardship Project to support local organizations and farmers working to build a healthy, equitable local food system. The Fund intends to have annual distribution cycles, and a steering committee consisting of the region’s food, sustainable agriculture and community leaders will determine how those funds are distributed.

The Fund’s priorities will change from year to year, depending on current issues and available funding. This past year, the flooding on farms in southwest Wisconsin, southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa made it clear that flood relief should be the current priority.

Donations to the Sow the Seeds Fund can be made at https://www.thedatabank.com/dpg/227313. For information on other ways to help farmers affected by the flooding, see http://www.landstewardshipproject.org/alerts/07/newsr_070901.htm.
