MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — What happens when wild nut gatherers from the Amazon Basin, fishers from Spain and pastoralists from Iran rub shoulders and break bread with Minnesota farmers? Find out on Sunday, March 29, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., during a special “Tales of Terra Madre” event at the Bryant Lake Bowl, 810 West Lake Street (on the corner of Bryant Ave. and West Lake St.), in Minneapolis. There is no charge for this event, but seating is limited so participants should reserve a spot by contacting Tom Taylor at ttaylor@landstewardshipproject.org or 320-269-2105.
This event will feature several Minnesota farmers sharing their experiences attending Slow Food International’s Terra Madre in Turin, Italy, last fall. These farmers were among over 7,000 farmers, fishers, shepherds, chefs, educators and students who participated in four days of meetings, workshops and lectures that focused on increasing small-scale, traditional and sustainable food production.
During the March 29 event, the Minnesota farmers will discuss the most local of global challenges: feeding the world in a sustainable and humane way and how efforts here and worldwide are meeting these challenges.
Participating farmers will be: Moonstone Farm’s Audrey Arner and Richard Handeen, Lori and Alan Callister of Callister Farm, Laura Frerichs of Loon Organics, Gardens of Eagan’s Atina Diffley, and Jim and LeeAnn VanDerPol from Pastures A’ Plenty.
The March 29 “Tales of Terra Madre” event is sponsored by the Land Stewardship Project and the Bryant Lake Bowl.
