6/26/09
FARMINGTON, Minn. — A workshop on mid-season management of an organic vegetable farm will be held Sunday, July 19, from 1 p.m. to p.m., at Gardens of Eagan farm’s Organic Field School near Farmington. This event, which is sponsored by the Land Stewardship Project’s Farm Beginnings program in collaboration with the Organic Field School at Gardens of Eagan, is free to Land Stewardship Project members and open to the public for a cost of $35. Please pre-register by calling Parker Forsell at 507-523-3366 or e-mailing parker@landstewardshipproject.org.

This is a production workshop for people already farming or interested in beginning farming. Participants will view firsthand mid-season management decisions, crop-by-crop, and fill in the weekly planning record the farm uses to guide decision-making for the following week and beyond.

This workshop/field day offers a unique opportunity to learn from farm managers Linda Halley and Mike Leck, while gathering a sneak peek into the decision-making process at one of the area’s most experienced organic vegetable farms. Topics to be covered include:

  • Pest management
  • Harvest planning
  • Irrigation decisions
  • Crop-to-cover crop transition
  • Weekly planning record
