Laura Cullip
Board Vice Chair
Farmer-Hutchinson, Minn.
Laura Cullip co-owns and operates Loon Organics, a diversified organic vegetable farm in Hutchinson, Minn. Laura got her start working on organic farms around the U.S. and Brazil before starting Loon Organics with her partner, Adam, in 2005, on one acre of rented land. After four years of renting land, Laura and Adam were able to purchase their 40-acre farm in Hutchinson and begin farming fulltime. Around that time, Laura became a member of the Land Stewardship Project and was a farmer-presenter for LSP’s Farm Beginnings class for many years, during which she shared their farm’s finances and start-up story. Laura also served on LSP’s Farm Viability Steering Committee. Being a part of the grassroots base of membership that helps to shape LSP’s programs and policy made Laura a die-hard LSP fan. Laura joined the LSP board in 2017, and is now the vice-chair. She was a founding member of the Land Stewardship Action board in 2018.
On behalf of LSP, Laura spoke about racial justice at the National Press Club in 2018 to help launch the People’s Action Rural Progressive Organizing Strategy. She has been an enthusiastic speaker at town halls, political candidate forums, and the Family Farm Breakfast at the Capitol, among other LSP events. Laura appreciates all that LSP does to lift up and center the voices of its members, its holistic vision of vibrant rural (and urban) spaces, the programs and policies that support farmers and farmworkers, and its fight against corporate interests to help keep the people and the land together.
Laura also works as a farmer educator, a Hutchinson adult education instructor, and as a Land Access Navigator with Renewing the Countryside.
