Topics covered during this Land Stewardship Project Soil Builders' workshop include cover crops, roller-crimping, no-till, interseeding and grazing covers.
• Bob Mierau no-tills corn and soybeans east of Caledonia, Minn. Bob is experimenting with cover crop mixes, winter wheat and using a homemade roller crimper. He intends to bring livestock back onto the land.
• John Troendle farms with his family outside of Caledonia on a 500-acre dairy that is transitioning to organic. John started using cover crops five years ago to build soil and retain nutrients. He has been successful at frost seeding rye, grows his own cover crop seed and would like to graze cover crops in the future.
