PRAIRIE FARM, Wis. — A farm tour on “Cut Flower Farming” will be held Wednesday, Aug. 7, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Green Light Farm in Prairie Farm (611 5 1/2 Avenue, Prairie Farm, WI 54762). This event is free for Land Stewardship Project (LSP) members and $10 for non-members. Please RSVP by Aug. 5 at www.landstewardshipproject.org/events/item/1392, or by contacting LSP’s Annelie Livingston-Anderson at 507-523-3366 or via e-mail.

Green Light Farm is a cut flower farm owned and operated by Maggie Sheehan and Ben Olson. They grow annual and perennial flowers on an eight-acre parcel of their property, utilizing five hoop houses in addition to outdoor fields. Their flowers are pesticide free and pollinator friendly and they sell to local florists and designers in Eau Claire, Menomonie, New Richmond, Hudson, Stillwater, Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the Twin Cities Metro Area. They also offer DIY wedding buckets and a “u-pick” option. During this evening field day, participants will learn more about how Sheehan and Olson started their farming operation, their production, and how they market their product.

This farm tour is being organized by LSP’s Farm Beginnings Program. LSP will be offering its one-day Farm Dreams class Aug. 25 and will begin its 12-month 2019-2020 Farm Beginnings course Oct. 26. Both training opportunities will be offered in Menomonie, Wis. For more on these and other LSP training opportunities, see www.farmbeginnings.org or contact Livingston-Anderson.
