Frac Sand Organizing

The corporate-driven frac sand industry exploits rural communities and threatens the health and well-being of people and the land. Oil and gas corporations and their allies want to strip mine the land for frac sand, destroying bluffs and hills. The frac sand is used in hydraulic fracturing, an extreme energy extraction method which further harms other rural communities across the country.

We know from direct experience that the frac sand industry puts corporate profit above the stewardship of our land, air, water, health, safety, quality of life and local economy. The frac sand mining industry is inherently destructive and exploitative, and Land Stewardship Project members are working to stop frac sand mining, processing and transportation with a concentrated focus on local organizing in southeast Minnesota and development of good public policy on a statewide basis in Minnesota.
