Planting in the Dust was written in 1985 by the late Nancy Paddock, an award-winning poet and former editor of the Land Stewardship Letter. This one act monologue features a farm woman named “Annie,” who speaks passionately about the land abuses she is witnessing in her community. During the 1980s, LSP used various actors to put on this play throughout the Midwest, and it was even presented overseas. After each performance, organizers would lead audience discussions about soil stewardship and its connection to the long-term viability of farming and rural communities.
A revised script of Planting in the Dust is available here. If you would like to use this script in a performance, contact LSP’s Brian DeVore via e-mail.
