Farming in the midst of tight land access, growth decisions, long-term transition planning, and a changing climate can bring up big questions about where your operation is headed. If you are looking for a grounded way to sort through those questions, the Land Stewardship Project is here to walk alongside you.

LSP is opening applications for a free, one-on-one financial coaching opportunity for mid-career and beginning specialty crop and livestock farmers. Participants will work directly with Sara Morrison, an LSP Farm Beginnings graduate who later bought her own farm, raised grass-fed beef, and earned an MBA with an agricultural emphasis. Sara brings both lived farm experience and financial training to help you look closely at your operation, weigh your options, and map out practical next steps.

— Apply Online Here —

What to Expect

• Individualized support: Up to 10 hours of one-on-one financial coaching, online or in person, focused on your farm goals and the decisions in front of you.

• Winter timeline: Coaching begins in October and wraps up before the 2027 growing season, with session times arranged around your schedule.

• Time commitment: Plan for about 5 to 10 hours of independent work outside of coaching sessions between October 2026 and March 2027 so you can get the most out of the process.

Who this is a good fit for: To make the coaching as useful as possible, participants should have at least two years of recorded financial history or Schedule F forms. Participants should also come with a values-based holistic goal, clear objectives for what they want to work on through financial coaching, and openness to feedback and creative problem solving.

Please note: This coaching focuses on business structure and financial management strategy. It does not include production-based technical assistance or relationship counseling.

How to apply: Space in this cohort is limited. If you think this coaching would help you take the next step in your farm’s financial planning, apply online by Wednesday, Sept. 23.

If you have questions about the application or the coaching process, contact me via e-mail.

Karen Stettler is a farm transitions organizer for LSP.
