Recently, two bills were introduced that would create permanent programs similar to popular local food purchase assistance programs. They would provide funding for all states, Tribes, and territories to purchase fresh produce, meat, dairy, eggs, and other nutritionally-healthy, locally-grown products from farmers to distribute in food access programs. These programs are a win-win. Supporting local farmers while ensuring that our most vulnerable neighbors have food on their tables builds community resiliency.

Before you hit send, consider following these tips to increase the effectiveness of your advocacy:

Add one to two sentences at the beginning of the template e-mail that says who you are, what it is that you do, or how you are connected to your local food system. We encourage you to edit the rest of the text as you see fit, or as is most relevant to you.

Edit the subject line so your message stands out. A personalized subject line increases the chance it will be read and not lost among identical messages.
