The Land Stewardship Project’s Land Access Land Legacy Team has simple application forms available for people seeking farmland or farmers. (You can find the forms to the right).

Ellen is seeking a motivated and reliable Farm Manager to join the team for the 2025 season on their Spring Grove, MN farm.  Gardner Family Farm is a pasture-based, regenerative livestock farm committed to ethical animal husbandry and land stewardship. They raise chickens, turkeys, and sheep on pasture, focusing on sustainable methods that respect the natural instincts and well-being of the animals. Their goal is to improve soil health while providing the community with high-quality, locally raised meats they can trust.  The farm consists of 180 acres, 4000+ Chickens, 200+ turkeys, 1000 laying hens, and 20 sheep.  The Farm Manager will work closely with the farm owners to manage daily operations, care for livestock, support market activities, and help maintain and improve farm infrastructure. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone passionate about regenerative agriculture, eager to learn, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team. Primary Responsibilities: Farm operations -Provide daily care for chickens, turkeys and sheep -Monitor animal health and welfare -Assist with on-farm construction and infrastructure projects -Operate and maintain large machinery (preferred) -Assist with on-farm poultry processing Customer and Market Engagement -Represent the farm at farmers markets and during on-farm sales -Interact with customers and guests professionally -Assist with order fulfillment and delivery -Other duties as assigned. Preferred Qualifications: Work Ethic and Team Fit -Strong attention to detail -Self-motivated and able to work both independently and collaboratively -Creative, adaptable and a strong problem solver Physical and Practical Skills -Able to lift at least 70 lbs unassisted -Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions -Capable of sustained physical labor Experience and Interests -Interest in sustainable agriculture and pasture-based animal management -Experience with livestock and/or operating large machinery (preferred, but not required) What You will Learn and Gain from This Role: -Practical, hands-on experience in sustainable livestock management -Skill in poultry processing, food safety, and direct-to-consumer sales -Develop skills in direct marketing and farm business operations -Experience the rhythm and discipline of farm life.  No housing available.  Pay is $20/hr - position available immediately.

Join farmers Bryan Lips (BT Farms), Wendy Johnson (Jóia Food & Fiber Farm), Todd Churchill (Churchill Reserve), Helen Forsythe (Feed the People Farm Cooperative), and more, to discuss topics like wide-row corn and cover crops, the Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program, agroforestry, growing small grains, and prescribed grazing.

  • Engage with soil health & water quality demonstrations (Regenerating Soil and Community Student/Faculty team)
  • Learn about regenerative agriculture practices (Winneshiek County Soil and Water Conservation District)
  • Experience and taste healthy food produced from the Driftless (Oneota Food Co-op)
  • Peruse and check out gardening, cooking, and health books (Decorah Public Library)
  • Connect with expertise elevating that food is health (Erin Meyer, MSFS RD)

7:30 p.m.: Presentation by Anne Biklé: Linking Soil Health to Human Health

Prelude: Dance performance by Luther College Orchesis Dance Group & faculty guests

Is it true that you are what you eat? Not entirely. The full story lies in how we grow the crops and raise animals that make their way into our bodies. Biklé will draw on her most recent book, “What Your Food Ate: How to Heal Our Land and Reclaim Our Health“, co-authored with her husband David Montgomery. 

8:30 pm: Soil, Food, and Health Conversation and Q & A with an award-winning panel of local/regional soil and human health care providers

A panel of local regenerative farmers will present and take questions.
