NW Wisconsin Grazing Conference

The Northwest Wisconsin Graziers Network and UW-Extension would like to invite you to attend this year’s fall grazing conference in Shell Lake from 8:30 a.m-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9. The conference will be held at the Shell Lake Community Center, 200 West Lake Drive next to U.S. Hwy 63, in Washburn County. The Community Center is only a block east of Highway 63 in center of town.

Registration and the trade show will start at 8:30 a.m. The meal will be catered by Lois Stellrecht, Country Cupboard, a local livestock farmer. This conference will continue our strong tradition of an informative and friendly networking environment to learn about grazing, cattle genetics and soil health. Conference should be of interest to new farmers, part-time or full-time operators, low-income startups, graziers or non-graziers. Several agency and commercial exhibitors will be available to network with throughout the day. The specific topics and order of presentations will include:

  • Extending the grazing season with Cover Crops — Logan Dwyer, Beef and Crop Producer, Chetek

  • Soil Microbiology Farm Survey — Dr. Teal Potter, UW-Madison, Dept. of Plant Pathology, CALS
  • Beef Industry Updates — Moderated by Kevin Schoessow, UW Extension,
  • Direct Marketing using the Internet — Mary Graise, North Star Bison, Rice Lake
  • Cost of Production in Beef operations — Becky Schey, UW-Extension, County Educator
  • Beef Marketing Outlook, 2020 and Beyond — Dr. Brenda Boetel, UW River Falls
  • Genetic Improvement Programs used by Grass-fed Beef Producers — Producer Panel
