There are few better ways to experience native prairie and lovely little Minnesota towns than on a bike in good company! Join the Land Stewardship Project’s Robin Moore for a curated tour complete with local parks, a large native prairie preserve, and insights into how land management affects the region.
The ride will start at Monson Lake State Park, near Sunburg Minn., in the morning, continue onto Swift Falls county park, and then to the historical Terrace Mill for lunch. From there, we will aim for Ordway Prairie and will finish back at Monson Lake State Park. We encourage you to stay at the park either Friday or Saturday night – or both!
The entire route is about 45 miles, but all are welcome to join us for any part of the daylong adventure. The ride is paced for all rider levels and is accessible to all ages except for small children. The terrain has gentle hills (okay, one big hill), farmland, pasture, and wetlands. The ride takes place on public roads, paved and gravel (approximately 8 miles of gravel), with minimal shoulders. Traffic is not heavy in this area, but all riders must be able to navigate sharing a road with cars.
This ride is also a fundraiser for LSP. To join us, participants should have at least one sponsor (and yep, you can sponsor yourself) – but more sponsors are better! The suggested sponsorship level is $45, or $1 per mile… or whatever a person can afford. The more sponsors you have, the more money you raise for our work…and there will be a prize for the most sponsorships raised!
Proceeds will support LSP’s work, mission, and long-term plan. If you’d like to know more about LSP, please contact Robin Moore or any of our LSP staff in Montevideo, Minneapolis, or Lewiston, Minn.
Monson State Park (1690 15th Street Northeast, Sunburg, MN 56289) has camping spots with and without electricity that can be reserved in advance on the DNR website.
Contact LSP's Robin Moore at 320-269-2105 or email@example.com if you have any questions or to register for the event.
See you there!
All the activities described will be outdoors with plenty of room for social distancing. We will work at maintaining a six-foot distance at all times. There is one opportunity to visit the Historic Terrace Mill Museum, which we will do in shifts or according to museum regulations.
