Recently, staff at the Land Stewardship Project helped plan a webinar given by our partners at the Campaign for Family Farms and the Environment (CFFE) which updated us on tariffs and what they mean for food and farm policy and the factory farm system. The webinar covered the basics of how trade policy impacts agriculture, what recent changes mean for the U.S. food system, and ways to get involved in the fight for fair trade and fair markets. You can view the webinar here.
We don’t have factory farms and Big Ag by accident. Trade and commodity policies helped create this unfair, consolidated system. Tariffs are taxes paid on imports into another country. Since the U.S. exports a huge amount of agricultural products to other countries, American farmers are incredibly vulnerable to retalitorial tariffs imposed by other nations.
We would love to know how tariffs are affecting you, your farm business, and your community. Let us know by answering a few questions in this brief survey. It will only take a couple of minutes, but your answers will help us understand the effect the trade war is having on farmers in our area. All answers will be kept strictly confidential.
