Stand With LSP in Lakeville, Minn., on Monday, December 18
Monday, December 18, is going to be a big day. Will you join us in Lakeville, Minn., to say NO to factory farms?
For more than a year, Land Stewardship Project members in Minnesota’s Goodhue County have been fighting to protect their community from the proposed Kohlnhofer factory hog farm. The Kohlnhofers planned to build the facility in the summer of 2016, but because of LSP, the factory farm has not yet been constructed.
The proposal was stopped in its tracks when local citizens filed a legal challenge to the Goodhue County Board’s decision to rubber-stamp the factory farm proposal, even though it would have violated the Goodhue County Zoning Ordinance. On Monday, Dec. 18, the Minnesota Court of Appeals will issue its ruling on this legal challenge.
We refuse to remain quiet while the Kohlnhofers put yet another rural community at risk. We’re collecting postcards from people who stand with us from across the state, urging Jeff Kohlnhofer —one of the factory farm proposers—to respect rural Minnesota and withdraw the factory farm proposal. Postcards have been rolling in from all over: we’ve received over 500 and counting, from Goodhue County and Lakeville to Winona, Montevideo, Thief River Falls and beyond.
On Monday morning, we’ll hold a press conference in Lakeville to announce the court’s decision. Afterwards, we’ll deliver the 500+ postcards to Jeff Kohlnhofer. If the court ruling goes our way, the postcards will add to the pressure. If the court rules against us, the postcards will help show that we’re not giving up — the Kohlnhofers have ultimate responsibility for dropping this dangerous proposal and listening to citizens.
