DONNELLY, Minn. — A field day featuring how one family is raising quality beef utilizing good pasture management and techniques that build soil health will be Friday, Oct. 5, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., at Boss Ridge Ranch near Donnelly (50114 140th St., Donnelly, MN 56235). This Land Stewardship Project (LSP) event is free and open to the public.

The pasture walk will begin at 2 p.m.; prior to that at 1 p.m., landowners and managers are invited to join LSP at Boss Ridge Ranch for one hour of special programming focused on non-operating landowners. Participants will learn about the Ericksons’ unique relationship with their landowner, learn a few of the basics of the operation, and get a chance to ask some questions about land management before the field day. Mark Erickson and his family raise grass-fed beef on rented land in the middle of corn and soybean country. Come see how they work to implement rest, recovery and residual forage in their pasture management. The Ericksons will also discuss their use of forage stockpiling for winter grazing and how to rehabilitate poorly producing pastures, as well as rotational grazing infrastructure.
