Dates for LSP’s Farm Dreams & Farm Beginnings Set
MENOMONIE, Wis. — In coming weeks, beginning farmers have two exciting Land Stewardship Project (LSP) educational opportunities available to them in Menomonie.
A four-hour “Farm Dreams” workshop will be held Sunday, August 25, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the Menomonie Market Food Co-op (814 Main St. E.). This workshop is designed to help people clarify what motivates them to farm, get their vision on paper, inventory their strengths and training needs, and get perspective from an experienced farmer.
This event is $20 for LSP members and Menomonie Market Food Co-op members; $40 for non-members. Each registration covers up to two individuals per farm. Register here or by contacting LSP’s Annelie Livingston-Anderson at 507-523-3366 or annelie@landstewardshipproject.org.
The 2019-2020 “Farm Beginnings” class will also take place at the Menomonie Market Food Co-op, starting Saturday, Oct. 26. This year-long training program focuses on the goal setting, marketing, and financial skills needed to establish a successful farm business. The course uses a mix of farmer-led sessions, on-farm tours, and an extensive farmer network. Classes take place primarily on Saturdays every two-to-three weeks from October through March and are followed by on-farm tours during the summer of 2020. The class cost is $1,500, which covers up to two individuals per farm.
Applications are due September 1, 2019; applications received before Aug. 1 and accepted will receive a $100 discount. More information and the application can be found here or by contacting Livingston-Anderson at 507-523-3366. Scholarships are available as well as, for Minnesota residents, a Minnesota Beginning Farmer Tax Credit for the cost of the class.
These educational opportunities are being organized by LSP’s Farm Beginnings Program. For more on these and other LSP training opportunities, see www.farmbeginnings.org or contact Livingston-Anderson.
