Tell Congress: We Need Rural Climate Leaders Now!

For over a year, Land Stewardship Project members have been advocating for the Agriculture Resilience Act (H.R.2803/ S.1337), a piece of federal legislation that invests in building a more climate-resilient farm and food system from the ground up. Our members have lobbied members of Congress during farm tours and in virtual meetings to advance this important bill.

LSP commends Minnesota U.S. Senator Tina Smith and U.S. Representative Betty McCollum for listening to their constituents and co-sponsoring the Agriculture Resilience Act. Their support exemplifies the leadership our rural communities need to rebuild local economies, adapt to extreme weather, and create more equitable and reliable regional food systems. Now we need to ensure that this bill is included in upcoming infrastructure funding and in the 2023 Farm Bill.

It’s important that we let Senator Smith and Representative McCollum know we support their action. Please click here to send a note of thanks. Don’t forget to add in why this matters to you! While you’re at it, let your other members of Congress know that we need their leadership too.

The Agriculture Resilience Act will:

  • Expand investment in conservation programs like the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) and the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) so that farmers aren’t turned away.
  • Provide soil health grants to states and tribal governments.
  • Include set-asides for beginning farmers and farmers and ranchers of color.
  • Promote a transition to managed rotational grazing and on-farm solar and wind energy.
  • Expand local animal processing infrastructure.

Invest in developing local markets to support products that improve soil health.
Senator Smith and Representative McCollum’s co-sponsorship is an important step as we fight for the investment our farm and food system needs. Now let’s get the rest of Minnesota’s Congressional delegation on board. It’s time for Congress to take action.

Please make your voice heard. Let’s build the farm and food system we deserve.
