CALEDONIA, Minn. — An in-depth, two-day, school for livestock graziers who want to take their skills to the next level will be held June 28-29 near Caledonia, Minn. Jordan and Rachelle Meyer of Wholesome Family Farms will host this Land Stewardship Project (LSP) workshop. There is no charge for the Driftless Grazing School, but pre-registration by Wednesday, June 26, is required. This event is limited to 70 people to allow for the best student-to-instructor ratio. To register, see landstewardshipproject.org/driftlessgrazing or contact LSP’s Alex Romano at aromano@landstewardshipproject.org, 641-220-6000.
Besides the Meyer family, this school will feature hands-on presentations by regional grazing leaders George Heller, Clifford Johnson, Nikki Meyer, Zach Knutson and Jeff Duchene. Topics covered will include: soil health and biology, observation and soil skills, multi-species grazing and out-wintering, permanent and temporary fencing, watering systems, pasture establishment, managing for diversity in changing conditions and small-scale farming economics, as well as pointers on using programs such as the Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Environmental Quality Incentives Program.
Both beginning and seasoned farmers alike will benefit from the comprehensive, in-field experience that will be provided at LSP’s Driftless Grazing School. Come prepared to network and ask questions.
