Tell Lawmakers that Farmworkers Deserve Paid Family & Medical Leave

All Minnesotans Should Have the Ability to Care for Loved Ones

After years of organizing, we are on the verge of creating a Paid Family & Medical Leave Program where all Minnesotans contribute and benefit. All Minnesotans should have the tools they need to have the freedom to care for their loved ones without putting their finances at risk. For an average of just $3 per-week per-employee, we can ensure that no Minnesotan has to choose between paying their bills and caring for their newborn, parent, spouse/partner, or child.

However, the Minnesota Senate is proposing to leave out temporary workers, including farmworkers. We cannot have a just and sustainable farm and food system or healthy communities if we don’t care for the workers our agricultural and state economy depend on. That’s why the Land Stewardship Project State Policy Steering Committee, made up of farmers and rural Minnesotans, unanimously voted to support creating a robust Paid Family & Medical Leave Program in the state. We all deserve coverage, regardless of where we work, what our vocation is, and where we come from.

Will you take just a few minutes today to take two actions?

  1. First, e-mail your state legislators to urge them to support including farmworkers and other temporary workers in the program through our easy-to-use form here.
  2. Second, if you’re a farmer, farmworker, temporary worker, or employer of temporary workers, sign our petition supporting Paid Family & Medical Leave for temporary workers! We will deliver this to legislators who are appointed to work out the differences between the House and Senate proposals once they are named.

Current, former, and retired farmers, farmworkers, temporary workers, and employers of temporary workers are welcomed and encouraged to sign!

With the Minnesota House passing a comprehensive Paid Family & Medical Leave bill this past Tuesday and the Minnesota Senate due to pass their version in coming days, now is the time to contact your legislators and sign the petition!

E-mail Your Legislators                                       Sign the Petition
